Customs and Ethics
Through the efforts of the Local Government in cooperation with the associations of the region, a number of cultural events are organized and revive customs and traditions, thus keeping alive the rich tradition of the region. The following is a list of events and customs that take place in the area throughout the year.
Carnival Events
During the Apokreon period, a large number of carnival events are organised for local residents and beyond. Carnival events with bonfires, clowns, many surprises and snacks in Pelasgia (neighbourhood of Ai Lia) and Raches (opposite the church of St. Gregory). There are also carnivals in Pelasgia and Glyfa as well as a carnival ball in Karavomilos.
On Clean Monday, couloumi are organized at the Park of the People in Stylida, at the beach of Vathikoilou (Staniki) and at the beach of Glyfa with traditional cuisine (bean soup, lagana and other Lenten dishes) and dancing with the accompaniment of instruments.
Summer Events
Every two years at the beginning of June in Stylida, the Nautical Week is held with music and other events, while during the same period cultural events are also held in Achinos.
Also in July, the crossing of the Maliacos, Raches-Kamena Vourla, while in the place “Vourlia” Sarakatsaniko feast (20 July) and seven days of cultural events in Pelasgia.
Finally, during the summer months, the Panhellenic beach-volley championship and the Panhellenic beach-tennis and beach-handball tournaments organized in Raches attract a large number of athletes and visitors.
